About the Village of Donnellson

The Village of Donnellson, Illinois, is conveniently located along Illinois Route 127, nestled between two vibrant county seats: Hillsboro to the north in Montgomery County, and Greenville to the south in Bond County. Donnellson sits at the southern edge of Montgomery County, extending slightly into Bond County. As of the 2020 census, our village is home to 153 residents.

Originally known as "Bear Creek," our village was renamed Donnellson in 1851. Established in 1854 and incorporated in 1897, Donnellson was founded on the principle of being a central location between key points in the region—a principle we continue to uphold today. The village is supported by five dedicated part-time employees who help keep our community running smoothly.

Surrounded by expansive farmland, Donnellson offers plenty of outdoor opportunities, including hunting and fishing. Antique enthusiasts will appreciate our location on the Central Illinois Antique Circuit, making the village a charming stop for collectors and visitors alike.

Our Community Center is available for rental by groups and individuals. It features a full-size gymnasium, a spacious meeting room, and a fully equipped kitchen. For rental information, please contact the village office.
